We arrived in Cusco a few days early to acclimatise to the altitude before doing the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Cusco is 3,500m above sea level.

We went to the McDonalds on the main square on the day we arrived, when queuing for a McFlurry a festival started outside celebrating the birth of the Virgin Mary. We left to check it out - Sim was gutted to miss out on the McFlurry.

The festival was an explosion of colour - with thousands of local Inca people dancing in the parade. The people were super friendly and happy to take pictures with us, with a couple of them even picking Laurie up!
